Once again, the beach ‘Playa del Duque’ proudly boasts the blue flag status

Once more, the beach ‘Playa del Duque’, in Adeje, has received the blue flag status. This recognition accredits its excellence and service quality, successfully reaching all the required criteria. Adeje, thus, is the provincial municipality of Santa Cruz de Tenerife with the greatest number of blue flags.

The beach is managed by the company Sociedad Explotadora Playa del Duque S.L., a member company of Grupo CIO (Compañía de las Islas Occidentales), owners of Hotel Bahía del Duque. The services offered include environmental information and education, water quality, environmental management, safety and services, lifeguards and information panels in several languages.

Cristina de Juan, hotel director of Bahía del Duque, says that this recognition further brings advantages and adds value to this beach. Playa del Duque is considered one of the best beaches in Spain for its beauty, comfort, accessibility, and for being located in one of Tenerife’s favourite tourist areas.

Blue flags are awarded by the Foundation for Environmental Education. The organisation also promotes and rewards participation in voluntary environmental initiatives by local authorities, neighbours, visitors and tourism stakeholders.

To obtain these international certifications, beaches undergo a series of technical inspections by independent specialists. Various aspects such as bathing water quality, environmental information, integrated management, bathing safety measures, accessibility, etc. are accredited.
