Bahía del Duque strengthens its excellence strategy with a €20 million investment plan through 2028

The Tais Hotels & Villas, owned by Grupo CIO, consolidates the position of its flagship property in the premium segment through an ambitious renovation and growth plan, including an extraordinary €13 million investment focused on 2025-2026.

The Tais Hotels & Villas, a family-owned luxury hospitality group, continues to advance its strategy of sustainable growth and continuous improvement with an ambitious investment plan totalling €20 million through 2028. Within this framework, the group is undertaking an extraordinary €13 million investment focused on 2025–2026, primarily dedicated to the comprehensive renovation of guest rooms and the enhancement of key spaces at Bahía del Duque and Las Villas.

These figures—more than double the group’s historical average annual investment of approximately €3 million—reflect a long-term strategic vision aimed at strengthening competitiveness, raising quality standards and anticipating the evolving expectations of today’s luxury traveller.

“For us, investment is not merely about refurbishing spaces. It is about continuously elevating our standards of excellence, protecting the value of our assets and anticipating the needs of an increasingly discerning guest. Ongoing reinvestment is part of our DNA as a family-owned company,” says Francisco Javier Zamorano, CEO of Grupo CIO, owner of The Tais Hotels & Villas.

A comprehensive renovation rooted in Canarian identity

The investment plan places particular emphasis on upgrading guest rooms, incorporating contemporary design, exceptional comfort, energy efficiency and state-of-the-art technology, while preserving the architectural and cultural essence of the Canary Islands that defines Bahía del Duque.

Meanwhile, Las Villas, conceived as private residences with premium services, have undergone enhancements designed to reinforce their offer of exclusivity, privacy and personalised service, in line with the expectations of high-net-worth travellers.

These initiatives complement the investments made in recent years across infrastructure, technological equipment, energy efficiency and IT processes, consolidating a holistic modernisation strategy that ensures the group’s long-term competitiveness.

“Every renovation project is an opportunity to evolve without losing our identity, reinterpreting luxury through a contemporary, sustainable lens that remains deeply connected to the destination,” adds the CEO.

Tradition, innovation and sustainability as strategic pillars

Since its inception, The Tais Hotels & Villas has upheld a clear vision of luxury as an emotional, authentic and deeply personalised experience, grounded in attention to detail, warm hospitality and respect for local culture. This philosophy is reflected in a balanced combination of tradition, innovation and sustainability, with each investment assessed according to its long-term impact and value.

In this context, the group has intensified its investments in energy efficiency and carbon footprint reduction, implementing projects such as the modernisation of desalination plants, the procurement of 100% renewable electricity with certified origin, the incorporation of clean energy solutions for hot water production, and the gradual replacement of lighting systems with high-efficiency alternatives.

“Sustainability is both a responsibility and a genuine criterion in our decision-making process. We prioritise investments that enable balanced growth, respect the environment and generate a positive impact on the destination,” emphasises Zamorano.

Benchmarks of premium tourism in the Canary Islands

Bahía del Duque, the group’s flagship property and a member of prestigious alliances such as The Leading Hotels of the World, Virtuoso and Forbes Travel Guide, has established itself as one of Europe’s most acclaimed hotels, earning more than 100 international awards since opening in 1993. Its model has played a pivotal role in positioning the Canary Islands as a global luxury destination.

Las Villas, meanwhile, represent the ultimate expression of exclusivity and personalisation within the group’s portfolio, offering an intimate, serene and fully bespoke experience for travellers who value privacy without compromising on excellence.

Through this strategy of continuous renewal, The Tais Hotels & Villas reaffirms its commitment to high-quality, sustainable and distinctive tourism, positioning itself as a key player in shaping a new era of premium hospitality in the Canary archipelago.

Maguenes: the next milestone in the group’s expansión

As part of its growth roadmap, The Tais Hotels & Villas is advancing Maguenes Resort, an ambitious project located in Guía de Isora, in the south of Tenerife. Conceived as an integrated destination for sustainable luxury, it will include a boutique hotel, private residences, a spa and a Gary Player–designed golf course. Designed by the renowned studio Foster + Partners, the resort stands out for its integration into the landscape and environmental focus, aspiring to become a new icon of tourism in the Canary Islands.

“Maguenes represents our vision of the future: a conscious form of luxury, deeply rooted in its surroundings and capable of generating lasting value,” concludes the CEO.
