Bahía del Duque sponsors 40 children thanks to the solidarity of its guests
Santa Cruz de Tenerife, April 2017.- The Hotel Bahía del Duque, company owned by Compañía de las Islas Occidentales, has managed to raise over 11.000€ in 2016 thanks to the contributions made by its guests towards the project, “What can you do with 1€?”, promoted by the Hotel in collaboration with the NGO Action Aid.
The Hotel has been actively promoting this project amongst its guests since 1998 and has sponsored, due to their contributions, 40 children in 8 countries (Bolivia, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Ecuador, Ethiopia and India). Furthermore, this year, the amount raised has exceeded all expectations and the remaining proceeds have been donated to the organization to collaborate with the project Boloso Sore in the area of Wolaita, Ethiopia.
In 2016 the project Boloso Sore built three schools that benefit 499 boys and girls. In 2017 and thanks to the contribution of guests of Bahía del Duque, Action Aid will be able to improve the infrastructure of these schools and equip them with school material.
In the words of Mónica Rumeu, Director of Sustainability for CIO, “These types of actions are greatly valued by our clients, who appreciate the chance to contribute and help with projects that aim to improve the quality of life of those who need it the most”.
“2017 is the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development, and so Bahía del Duque wants to continue supporting and creating awareness for actions and projects of environmental and social sustainability, which will benefit everyone” states Mónica Rumeu.
Action Aid has been working for 36 years to eradicate poverty and inequality, contributing to the improvement of nutrition, health and education of over two and half million children and their families. To date, they work in 18 countries of Latin America, Africa, and Asia and for the last four years, also Spain.
